Contribute to Levi Meeuwenberg’s “Backflips for Kids” Fundraiser!

Freerunner and Ninja Warrior, Levi Meeuwenberg is running a unique fundraiser to raise $3000 for the Parkour Visions project to help disadvantaged kids learn to overcome obstacles with parkour.

Each time you make a donation, a message is sent to Levi’s phone telling him to do a backflip. No matter where he is at that time, he will do a standing backflip! Then he will tweet explaining who made him do the backflip and where they made him do it. To get an idea of how this works, check out the video HERE.

You can learn more about the project at Levi Meeuwenberg’s Blog, or make a donation and make Levi do a backflip Here.

California Jam - Spring 2010
March 20-21, 2010 @ San Francisco & Berkeley

http://www.sfparkour.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3474
The CA Jam is all about connecting with traceurs from other areas, cities, and communities around the Bay… and with our fellow practitioners from southern California!  This will be a 2-day, multi-spot jam (and BBQ!) to share some of our favorite SF and Berkeley spots with visiting traceurs.  Please check the forum for details and tips on rides and housing.  Beginners are definitely welcome! While unstructured and open, jams will still begin with a meet’n'greet and warmup, then end with a clean up time. Participants are encouraged to jam, condition, drill, have parkour-related discussions, get help from others, teach Beginners and just hang out.

Other Info

There are several weekly training sessions led by SFPK community members in San Francisco, Berkeley, Sacramento, Santa Rosa, and elsewhere around the Bay. New Nonprofit “Parkour Visions” Needs Your Help!

A new parkour nonprofit needs donations to get a permanent spot on a site that will draw lots of donors. Tyson Cecka submitted his nonprofit, “Parkour Visions” (formerly the Pacific North West Parkour Association) to GlobalGiving.org. They need to raise a total of $4,000 by the end of June to gain a permanent spot on the website, which will go a LONG way in procuring more funding for their community outreach projects. Most of their projects focus on at-risk children, so this money is going to help people that really need it!

They have about a week now to reach their goal, so we urge you to donate if you can, and if you can’t, just check it out for inspiration. To do either, click the link below:

Jam soon!

Volunteers needed! Join SFPK in the Bunkers Restoration Project on 5/16 @ 9AM

What
SF Parkour is partnering with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to give back to one of our favorite hot spots by restoring a popular trail here: the Batteries to Bluffs trail. This is the one that goes down along where we hold our “Bunker” jams. This is a great way for the parkour community to give back at one of the places we use a lot, so let’s all get out there and represent by improving the area. It also happens to be one of the best places around here to jam, so at noon when the trail restoration ends we’ll have a jam there. Bring your friends, bring sunscreen!

Plus, this is good timing because the West Coast Regional Jam will be held here the following week, so it’s our chance to spruce it up a bit first.

So show your community spirit and join us at 9AM at the Bunkers (aka Battery Godfrey).

When
Saturday 5/16, 9AM to noon.

Where
Battery Godfrey at 9AM (that’s where there’s the parking lot and usual meeting location).

What to Bring
Tools, snacks, and beverages will be provided. Please wear clothes that can get dirty, long pants, close-toed shoes, layers for changing weather, and rain gear if necessary. Also, bring a personal water bottle and sunscreen. Sounds like there’s a waiver we sign there, but TBD how that works as it’s a special group thing they’re organizing for us.
For more details, and to let us know you’re coming, please visit the thread - http://www.sfparkour.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2590

Help support SFPK in the “Race for the Cure” charity event!

Brett Robert (aka Beretta), SFPK’s North Bay Area Rep, is leading the charge for an upcoming charity event - the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure” 5K run - to increase awareness and earn donations for breast cancer research.  This is a very important topic that is near and dear to quite a few of our member’s hearts, and we would love to have the community’s support!

The Race for the Cure will be held on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 at CalExpo in Sacramento.  SF Parkour will have a team running the race, if you’re interested in participating or sponsoring a runner, here’s how you can help:

1) Join our Team
Click here to join our team, collect donations on your own, and run! Follow the link near the top that says “Join Our Team.” Note to join the team you have to register to enter the race (Adult - Non-Timed) which is $35.

Click here and under “Team Members” at the bottom right you can choose to make your donation through a “General Team Donation” or through one of the team members. Remember all money goes to Susan G. Log Off and Jam On!

The SFPK Community Forum is CLOSED today.  On the first Friday of each month, the forum will be read-only and closed to posting.  This “Log Off and Jam On” Day should serve as a reminder to all - the online community is awesome, but the reason we are all here is because we love to be out there practicing parkour!  We highly encourage everyone to take this time to log off, get offline, and go outside and train.  Train alone or in small groups with others from your local area - it doesn’t matter, just get out and jam!

Read more here, and we’ll see you online Saturday!

Q&A Video of Dan from Parkour Generations Posted

Dan from Parkour Generations in the UK visited us recently and took us through one of their warm-ups and jams, and did a Q&A for us about what his organization is about and a bit about the history of parkour. It’s a good watch, and very informative. He talks about training techniques, where parkour has come from and where it’s going, including what Parkour Generations is doing these days. He touches on several controversial topics too.
