Contribute to Levi Meeuwenberg’s “Backflips for Kids” Fundraiser!

Freerunner and Ninja Warrior, Levi Meeuwenberg is running a unique fundraiser to raise $3000 for the Parkour Visions project to help disadvantaged kids learn to overcome obstacles with parkour.

Each time you make a donation, a message is sent to Levi’s phone telling him to do a backflip. No matter where he is at that time, he will do a standing backflip! Then he will tweet explaining who made him do the backflip and where they made him do it. To get an idea of how this works, check out the video HERE.

You can learn more about the project at Levi Meeuwenberg’s Blog, or make a donation and make Levi do a backflip Here.

APK’s new “What is Parkour” definition released!

AmericanParkour.com has released their new “What is Parkour” definition!

For more details on the official announcement, how this was created, and further discussion, please read the SFPK forum thread.

What is Parkour?

Parkour is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one’s path by adapting one’s movements to the environment.

  • Parkour requires… consistent, disciplined training with an emphasis on functional strength, physical conditioning, balance, creativity, fluidity, control, precision, spatial awareness, and looking beyond the traditional use of objects.
  • Parkour movements typically include… running, jumping, vaulting, climbing, balancing, and quadrupedal movement. Movements from other physical disciplines are often incorporated, but acrobatics or tricking alone do not constitute parkour.
  • Parkour training focuses on… safety, longevity, personal responsibility, and self-improvement. It discourages reckless behavior, showing off, and dangerous stunts.
  • Parkour practitioners value… community, humility, positive collaboration, sharing of knowledge, and the importance of play in human life, while demonstrating respect for all people, places, and spaces.

Volunteers needed! Join SFPK in the Bunkers Restoration Project on 5/16 @ 9AM

What
SF Parkour is partnering with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to give back to one of our favorite hot spots by restoring a popular trail here: the Batteries to Bluffs trail. This is the one that goes down along where we hold our “Bunker” jams. This is a great way for the parkour community to give back at one of the places we use a lot, so let’s all get out there and represent by improving the area. It also happens to be one of the best places around here to jam, so at noon when the trail restoration ends we’ll have a jam there. Bring your friends, bring sunscreen!

Plus, this is good timing because the West Coast Regional Jam will be held here the following week, so it’s our chance to spruce it up a bit first.

So show your community spirit and join us at 9AM at the Bunkers (aka Battery Godfrey).

When
Saturday 5/16, 9AM to noon.

Where
Battery Godfrey at 9AM (that’s where there’s the parking lot and usual meeting location).

What to Bring
Tools, snacks, and beverages will be provided. Please wear clothes that can get dirty, long pants, close-toed shoes, layers for changing weather, and rain gear if necessary. Also, bring a personal water bottle and sunscreen. Sounds like there’s a waiver we sign there, but TBD how that works as it’s a special group thing they’re organizing for us.
For more details, and to let us know you’re coming, please visit the thread - http://www.sfparkour.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2590
