View Full Version : Training session at SF State Thursday 6pm 1/22/09
Im holding a class at SF state this thursday. This class is about 2 hours long and is being broken up into 3 parts. Warmup and sprint training, parkour movment training, then putting fundumentals to use.
Warmup and sprint training:
This section includeds a warmup run, some joint rotation stretches and some QM. After warmup we go into sprint/ running training. This is to learn a better and more efficient way to run. I learned all the routines ill be teaching from an olympic sprinter. This section will help you balance and stabalize yourself during a sprint/run.
Parkour Movment training:
This includes progresions into many parkour movments. In this section of class everyone will help each other with which ever movments they need training with and also reviewing their arsenal of movments they already know.
Puting your parkour fundamentals to work:
This section of class is where we put everything we know to work. We will be chosing a point A and B to race to using our parkour knowledge to get there. Efficiancy is the key to this section. After everyone has compleated the trip from point A to point B the 2 people that got to the destination first are going to go back and show everyone in the group the path that they took. This is gonna give everyone a chance to see and experiance the most efficient way to the destination that your fellow SFPK members have found and give you and understanding about how you can be more efficient yourself.
Once this is done we will do a nice warmdown and stretch as we re-cap the practice then split.
This class will be at 6:00 PM on thursday at San Francisco State University. We will meet at the San Francisco State Track. We will start warmup when the majority of people get there.

Unfortunately school days in the evenings are not good for me. :tear:
I'll definitely come when I have a day off, though, and also during the summer.

"Race"?
we will be splitting into 2 groups ... if we need to .. and moving about 80% of your fasttest pace. This is not to compete tho .... technacally its not raceing its just seeing who uses the most efficient path to get there.... and by using the most efficient path thus should put you at the ending point first. Then going back and showing everyone the efficient path you took.
That a better explenation for it?

Sounds like a good idea to me as long as it doesn't turn into a competition.

haha. stop the antagonizing peepas!
i might drop by
Like corndog sayed. It is training through insperation.... seeing someone find the best and most efficient path so you can learn and make your own technique better. You have to remember the main point of parkour. Its to train our body and our mind to do these movments in an emergency situation, so seeing the most efficent path may not help much in a body sence but truly train the mind to see a path of efficency that you dont get to see during a normal standing practice.

I did a race once...and I almost got hurt. there is serious potential for injury.
Traceurs are mostly against the idea of competition, because it will lead us in the wrong path.
just stating...

I don't think you are understanding what he is saying. It's more of a way for traceurs to share their ideas about what is the most efficient path, so they can try paths besides the ones they think of themselves.
its exactly the way hillexallen says it .... i dont want people raceing to get there i want hem finding their own path ... one they think is most efficient .... its kind of like rally racing ... they dont actually race each other .. they drive the way they think is most efficent and thus it leads to them winning by efficency ... this kind of practice is like that ... find your own path .. the person who comes up with the most efficient will end there first then they can show everyone else there eficient path so the others can see what they can do to improve their path.

Hey, if this is regular, weekly, and on Thursday, you should make a <Standing Jam> thread for it.
